Have a Healthy Thanksgiving

1. HAVE A HEALTHY THANKSGIVING! Nobody wants to totally avoid their favorite foods during the holidays. But we also want to ward off the holiday weight gain! Making simple exchanges will give you the best of both worlds!

  • Load up on veggies first
  • Skip the starch & enjoy your piece of pie
  • Enjoy smaller portions of heavy side dishes
  • Gonna go all out when its time for the feast? Start off with healthy protein & veggies instead of a pancake breakfast.

2. GET MOVING! Sticking to your workouts will keep your energy up- and you’re going to need a lot of energy to navigate the parties and stave off weight gain this holiday season!

3. FIGHT COLD SEASON! Taking care of your body, getting enough rest & eating well will help you stay healthy even when your kids or family members are coughing and sneezing nonstop. Maintaining a positive attitude can have a powerful effect on the length of a cold.

4. GEAR UP FOR TRAVEL! If you’re flying- take your own snacks and fill your water bottle after security-stay hydrated to keep your immune system strong. Once you get to your location, make the grocery store your first stop! Stocking your hotel fridge with healthy snacks will save you time, money & poor choices. If you’re driving- take a small ice chest & choose to pit stop at the grocery store instead of a fast food joint!

5. FOCUS ON THE GOOD! It’s easy to be consumed by the things that go wrong, but feeling grateful for the positive aspects of your life can boost your mood, energy levels, and strengthen relationships with your loved ones. So take the holiday to heart and stop a second during the busy day to remember all the things you’re thankful for.

Create a Daily Routine

Establishing a routine is vital to accomplish what is important to you & you family. Having some semblance of order is so key to not losing your shit on a daily basis!

For me when things look out of order, they feel out of order & the moment I open my eyes, or that first request with, “MOMMY!” arrives, I’m on edge. It doesn’t take much at that point to send my entire morning spiraling down the landslide of bad moods.

When you notice this happening (often), you can either make it a part of your life or take charge of your days! Here’s how:

CATEGORIES

Figuring out how we really spend our time is so important to this process!

•separate life into categorties (health, family, work, etc.) What needs to be changed?

•Spend 24 hours tacking everything you do in 15 minute intervals. Where are you REALLY spending your time?

•Pick 3 behaviors you need to change to each your goal

BRAINSTORM

Just get it all down on paper! There are no dumb ideas when it comes to brainstorming!

•Brainstorm actions then break them down into small daily steps

CREATE BLOCKS OF TIME

Keeping time in blocks allows us to put a deadline on activities, mindspace & action. And it will keep you from feeling like spend all day doing any one things!

•Schedule your routine! Use 15-30 minute blocks & behaviors from step 2

•Be consistent! Implement daily weekly and monthly goals to stay on track

DISCIPLINE

With anything-discipline is the key to success!

•Stay disciplined & visualize your end goal

•Prepare! Set an alarm, set out your workout clothes the night before, decide what you’ll be eating when you leave the house, check your email once a day

BE GOOD TO YOURSELF

If you go of course, it’s ok! Don’t beat yourself up about it. Go back & revisit your routine to see if something needs to be changed, then jump back in!

If you don’t prioritize your life, someone else will!

Let’s Get Hissy Fit

Hi I’m Monica! A wife, mom of 4, fit foodie, book reading, wine drinking, fitness loving, night owl!

Years ago my husband & I decided I would stay home with our kids. Like most good parenting ideas, this was decided BEFORE we had kids. 3 kids in, I knew I wanted something beyond motherhood. Not because I was bored, but because I didn’t want to lose myself! It was like a mommy tantrum-there was nothing left for me at the end of my day & it just wan’t fair!

SO, I decided to start a handmade business! Only problem was, sewing was not my passion. There were so many aspects of that business that flourished & totally lit me up. But when it came down to it, I just couldn’t see myself spending every nap time, sewing for strangers & making THEIR ideas come to life (more toddler behavior). I was also letting my health & fitness go to the wayside while throwing back a little too much vino at the sewing table.

In 2015 we decided to be grown ups. We got some help with our nutrition, started working out consistently & read book after book of personal & professional development. And we liked it!

That one choice changed the path of our lives. And our family’s too.

I share our story to help others live better. Not because what we were doing was bad, simply because we knew we were capable of more.

I’m not a trained professional. I’m a real life mom who’s trying to raise good people, enjoy my life & teach our children how to enjoy theirs. I want to travel the world, eat good food, drive a clean car, hang out with my husband on a Tuesday, have 6 pack abs, see the beach every week, shower uninterrupted & drink hot coffee every morning. Maybe even twice.

I wanted a place to off load my thoughts, share some of my best practices & give people a reference point for nutrition, fitness & business. Also my Camera Roll is always maxed, so this just makes sense!
